Want guacamole in a flash? Keep it simple with just the essential ingredients for a delicious guacamole with this recipe that takes less than 10 minutes to whip up! Grab some tortilla chips and you’ve got yourself a delicious snack or use it to top your nachos, tacos or any of your other Mexican-style favourites!

What You’ll Need
- Avocadoes: The basis of any guacamole is of course avocadoes. Choose ones that are nice and ripe– how to tell differs a little on the variety (and you can use any here) but generally ones that yield to slight pressure when you push on them are good to go!
- Onion: This is what really helps to give the guac it’s flavour. Traditionally, you’d crush this in a mortar and pestle, which works great if you have one at hand, but otherwise I find grating it with a hand or box grater works just as well.
- Lime: The amount you need will differ depending on the size and acidity of the lime you have, and of course your tastes. Start with the juice from 1/4-1/2 of a lime and add more if you feel you need it.
- Salt: What makes the rest of the ingredients sing! Again, start with a little and adjust to taste.

And that’s it! Other recipes often call for additional ingredients like diced tomatoes, jalapeno peppers and/or coriander, which are also delicious but aren’t necessary for a great guacamole. If you’d like to add any of these though, I’ve popped in some suggested amounts in the recipe card as a guide.
How To Make Guacamole: Step by Step

- Using a box grater, grate your onion and place it into a bowl
- Stir in the juice of 1/4-1/2 of a lime
- Scoop in the flesh of your avocadoes
- Mash with a fork until everything is well combined and adjust the amount of lime and/or salt to taste.
And in case you’re wondering, a fork is definitely better than a spoon to mash- I thought I’d be super efficient and use the spoon I’d used to scoop the avocado to mash it together, but that turned out to be a lesson in frustration- so definitely grab a fork for the job!
How to Serve
Serve your guacamole with tortilla chips as an easy snack or appetizer. Essential on top of nachos, it’s also a great addition to tacos, burritos, bowls of chilli or even baked potatoes. Or just slather it onto toast, with or without an egg, for a simple but tasty lunch or breakfast.

How to Store and Make Ahead
Guacamole is usually best served fresh on the day it’s made as the avocado oxidises and takes on a brown, less than appetising colour if it’s left for more than a few hours. If you’re wanting to make it ahead or store it however, a tight, flush layer of cling wrap or a layer of lime juice seems to help.
